Questioning Pelosi’s Credibility
Thursday, May 12th, 2005 Letters to the Editor by IARCHouse Minority Leader Lancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) comment that “It is not an issue of members of our Caucus having the same sort of a problem” when asked about potential ethics violations by House Democrats exposes the true partisan nature of this “scandal.” (“Travel Scandal Fallout Ensnares Both Parties,” May 5).
For weeks, Democrats claimed they were concerned about how potential ethics violations affected Congress as an institution. Yet, according to Pelosi, this discussion excludes House Democrats. Her credibility on this issue is now in question. Because their legislative solutions do not resonate in Middle America, Democrats are desperately trying to find their way back into the majority by exaggerating a one-sided scandal.
This is in addition to Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean mocking California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s (R) immigrant accent and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) calling President Bush “a loser.” How low can Democrats take our nation’s political discourse?
