Washington, D.C. – Today, the Indian American Republican Council congratulated four of its members who ran for public office in the recent elections.
“These four leaders took upon themselves the most challenging task of running for office to better serve their communities. While they fell just short of victory, their perseverance and dedication serves as an inspiration to all who seek the noble goal of public office. We wish them the very best in their future endeavors and do hope they will continue to be engaged in public service.”
Profiles of IARC Members who ran for office November 3, 2009:

Tim Nank – Virginia House of Delegates District #43
Tim is a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves and served in the administration of President George W. Bush in the White House and other federal agencies.

Jaye Rao – Charlotte City Council
Jaye is a lifelong resident of Charlotte and received more than 1.4 million votes during her race for Secretary of State of North Carolina in 2004.

Harry Walia – Venice City Council (FL)
Harry is the co-chair of the IARC, a successful businessman and developer. He lost his race by a margin of 51%-49%, falling short by just 139 votes.
Ashok Chandra – New York City Council
Ashok is an attorney and ran on a platform to cut taxes, make city services more efficient, and help create jobs in the city.
