Lamestream media spins Sarandon, Robbins split
Monday, December 28th, 2009 Blog / Commentary by IARCIt’s just been reported that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins split up this summer. Rumors are circulating that the 63 year-old Sarandon may be having an affair with her 31 year-old business partner, who loves playing ping-pong. How manly. Maybe he can hang out with the sons she had with Mr. Robbins, one is 17 and the other is 20. She has another daughter with another partner, and another husband before that one (we know, we know, it’s complicated, but try to keep up).
What’s funny is the way the Associated Press reported the breakup: “One of Hollywood’s most enduring couples has separated. . . . Sarandon and Robbins never married. Instead, they have been compared to other longtime Hollywood pairs who remain committed despite never officially tying the knot, such as Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.”
Something that endures lasts forever, so it’s nonsensical to refer to an “enduring” couple that just separated. The separation by definition signifies the relationship was not enduring, but by Hollywood standards 23 years represents eons, so we’ll cut the AP some slack. What’s truly ridiculous is the AP comparing Sarandon and Robbins to “other longtime Hollywood pairs” using the plural, but then naming only one other couple.
Hollywood is a place of infidelity, hookups and breakups. We understand that. What we don’t understand is the spin placed on this relationship and the failure to note the leftwing drivel promoted by both Sarandon and Robbins over the years. Perhaps this explains why their last major awards occurred 15 and seven years ago respectively, as the rest of middle America didn’t want to waste their money to watch a couple of radical liberals. Their ideologically Leftist views largely defined who they were, uniting them as a couple to promote values antithetical to the majority of this country.
Now, instead of exalting the couple for their “amazingly” long Hollywood relationship, the media will be forced to report on just another washed-up couple who used their fame to embrace liberalism and ultimately saw their box-office appeal disappear.
