Washington, D.C. – Today, the Indian American Republican Council (IARC) announced that a member of its board of directors, Neil Chatterjee, has joined the office of U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate Leader from Kentucky.

“We are very pleased that one of the IARC’s leaders has joined the office of Senator Mitch McConnell,” said IARC spokeswoman Nina Verghese.  “Neil is an accomplished attorney with extensive congressional experience.  We are confident that he will ably serve Senator McConnell and are pleased that the Senator recognizes the importance and influence of the IARC in this manner.  We wish Neil the very best in his new position, and we are confident that he will reflect our values of limited government and free enterprise in the United States Senate.”
Mr. Chatterjee hails from Lexington, Kentucky.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from St. Lawrence University and his law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.  He began his career in Washington serving as an assistant to the Chief Counsel for the House Committee on Ways and Means under Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA).  He then served as a Legislative Assistant to Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-OH) and went on to serve as Chief Counsel for the House Republican Conference when Pryce assumed the chairmanship, the fourth ranking position in the U.S. House of Representatives.  Mr. Chatterjee was the only Indian American to serve as a House leadership aide in the 109th Congress.
In 2006, Mr. Chatterjee left Capitol Hill to work in the Government Relations Department of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, serving as an energy goverment relations representative serving the interests of America’s 42 million Electric Cooperative consumers.
“To work for my home state Senator at a time when he is serving as the Party leader is the chance of a lifetime and I relish the opportunity and look forward to the challenge,” said Mr. Chatterjee.  He will advise Senator McConnell on Energy and Agriculture policy.  In addition to his legislative work, Mr. Chatterjee serves on the board of the Indian American Republican Council, the Brad Wilkerson Charitable Foundation, The Holy Cross Hospital Foundation Gala Steering Committee and the American Association of People with Disabilities.  He is also a leading member of the Homespun working group that is developing a Smithsonian exhibit dedicated to the achievement of Indian Americans in the United States.
Mr. Chatterjee joins attorney Rohit Kumar, an IARC member and the Domestic Policy Director in Senator McConnell’s office.
